 Questions and Answers

This is where we will keep track of various issues that may eventually be documented as policies or procedures.  It's probably a good idea to add to questions at the top of the page and remember to initial your postings. CK

New Question:

Example

As an example, we could discuss the pros and cons UCF IP access in public service areas.

Pros & Cons of UCF Network Access
Good things about  being on the UCF network  Problems with having patron machines on the UCF network Initials Notes?
It's easier to just sit down and search databases without the 14 digit login Maintaining equipment is more complicated because itinvolves both CC and UCF staff. cmk
Need UCF IP to run ALEPH client No way to control access for unaffiliated patrons cmk
Promote the visibility of UCF Libraries in a Joint-use facility. (If the workstations are properly marked with UCF logos)  Possible extra work for UCF librarians to remove unaffiliated patrons when UCF students are waiting for the limited UCF workstations.  mt

Q: How can a UCF patron use the ILL request function from the community college catalog (LINCC)?

A: For UCF patrons who are issued a partner library card (Cocoa, Palm Bay, and Ocala), they just need to use their joint-use libraries card numbers and corresponding passwords to make a request. For UCF patrons who are NOT issued a new card (like in the case of South Lake), first have their UCF library account info. entered into the partner libraries' Aleph, then use their UCF Library numbers and the last four digits of their SSN as the password to make a request. (mt)

Q: Which system should a patron use to renew items, WebLuis or ILLiad?

A: Though ILLiad has a renewal feature too, only the WebLuis system should be used to make renewal. The two systems don't 'talk' to each other, so if a patron makes a renewal from one system, the new due date won't be reflected in another system. And please note it's the due date in the WebLuis system that counts. (Note: Plain language for ILLiad and WebLuis for people like me are: ILLiad -- Interlibrary Loan Account, to which you use your PID to log in; WebLuis -- "My Account/Renew Books")   (mt)
